Elementary School I

At Geneva Christian School, the first years of elementary school mark the beginning of a transformative journey in which each student is encouraged to discover their potential, develop essential skills, and strengthen ethical and Christian values. We combine the legacy of Classical Christian Education with innovative teaching approaches, creating an environment where tradition and modernity move forward together.

Cognitive-Interactionist Approach and Classical Education

Our educational model combines the principles of Classical Education with a cognitive-interactionist approach to promote active and meaningful learning. We value the teacher’s guidance and each student’s interaction with knowledge, encouraging active participation in the process of building understanding.

With the Trivium as their foundation, our students learn to master grammar, logic, and rhetoric, building a solid basis for critical thinking and communication.

🌍 Trilingual Program

Beginning in Grade 1, students take part in our trilingual program, with daily English classes in partnership with Abeka, which uses the phonics method, and two French classes each week in collaboration with Alliance Française de Niterói. This language-immersion environment prepares children for the challenges of a globalized world.

🧠 Problem-Based Learning

Inspired by the Swiss educational model, we integrate Problem-Based Learning (PBL) into the curriculum to encourage students to solve real-world problems. This distinctive Geneva method places students at the center of learning, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration through practical, thought-provoking activities.

🔡 Literacy Through the Phonics Method

Our students learn to read and write through the Phonics Method, an effective approach that focuses on the connection between letters and sounds and provides a solid foundation for reading and writing.

✍️ Valuing Cursive Writing

Beginning in Grade 1, our students are encouraged to use cursive writing, an important aid to cognitive and motor development that also strengthens writing fluency.

🕒 A Balanced Class Routine

Our classes last 40 minutes and are followed by 30-minute breaks, balancing focus and rest to support more effective learning and retention.

🖥️ Integrated Technology and Progress Monitoring

We use artificial intelligence-powered educational tools to closely monitor our students’ development, providing continuous, personalized insight into their reading and writing skills.

👩‍🏫 Small Classes and Individual Attention

With classes of up to 18 students and specialized academic coordinators, we ensure that every child receives the support and attention they need to flourish academically and personally.

Educational technology supporting reading development

We use a platform that is an essential part of the Literary Explorations project, designed to foster a love of reading and encourage students’ academic and personal growth. Integrated into our curriculum, the platform offers an extensive digital library with more than 1,000 interactive books and audiobooks across different genres and reading levels. Students can therefore enjoy a personalized literary experience by choosing books suited to their level and interests.

The platform also tracks student progress and provides detailed performance reports and activities that strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. This tool aligns perfectly with our commitment to forming critical, proficient readers who are passionate about literature, enriching the learning environment and inspiring a continuous and enjoyable literary journey.
